What could be improved
Staff at front dest A&E unfriendly, not helpful, felt I should not be there.
When dad was admitted I don't not expect to have to deal with the A&E Manager's stress outburst because all she wants to do is mark the white board before allowing me to see dad, surely the patient and pateint relatives come first, to make matters worse she first tells me dad is in a high dependency cubicle and when I ask her why, whats wrong with dad, I get told "all I want to do is write one line of text on the white board, go sit over there and we will call you". Another nurse comes and gets us as dad was being moved to a ward just as she finished saying this, but when I walked past her she thought the way she treat us was funny. I work at this hospital and it does not mean that because I have a staff badge that I should be treat different from the public, but mind you mum does not work here and she was upset and found the A&E Manager very rude, unprofessional, why have I not reported it you may ask, because I know how the system works nothing will be done. On the ward I cannot find out what is happening with dad, he has severe dementia, and I pushed from pillar to post, can't speak up for himself, I buy him squash etc and the next day it has disappeared, I often find him lying in his own faeces / urine. As he is not on the Geriatric Ward the nursing staff have no idea on how to look after dementia patients (just rolling out course for staff to go on, not mandatory) and he is old not sexy enough to look after and some nurses just forget about him. I am ashamed to be working for the NHS at the moment as I feel some staff look at the person see the age and seem to abandon them and the relative seems to have lost control of their relative and treated as if they have to right to know what is going on. Its like getting blood out of a stone to find out what they are doing to dad, I can't ask him all he says 'yes' to everything. I just want to get him out of this hospital and home. Shame on the NHS treatment of old dementia patients.
