About: Totnes Hospital

After receiving advice from 111, we made our way to Totnes Hospital. Arrived at 8.45pm (they close at 9pm), and they questioned why i had been sent there. The nurse informed me they leave at 9pm and they was not prepared to treat me, and I would have to go to Torbay. With that attitude, surely Totnes Hospital should state their minor injuries unit closes before 9pm? We went onto Torbay Hospital and received excellent treatment. I would recommend people go straight to Torbay and cut out Totnes hospital. I will be doing that next time.

I am sorry to hear that your experience of this service was a negative one. When attending an MIU, a patient is assured an assessment up to the time of closure, and treatment given where possible; this will depend on the nature of injury or illness. I apologise if in your case, this was not the procedure that seemed to be followed. I have forwarded your comments to the Manager of Totnes Community Hospital MIU, who has assured me that she will investigate your concerns. As an action from your feedback, all MIU staff will be reminded of the correct operating procedures and of the behaviours expected by Torbay and Southern Devon Health and Care NHS Trust.
