"I was very nervous about having ..."

About: West Cornwall Hospital (Penzance)

(as the patient),

What I liked

I was very nervous about having my day surgery operation (lap chole) but I was allowed to have my husband with me until it was time for me to be taken to the anaesthetic room, much to my relief. My husband was then given the option to either stay and wait while I was being operated on or to go, and the staff would phone him when I was ready for him to return, which they did on request.

When I woke from the anaesthetic the nurses in the recovery room were true angels - sips of water and painkillers at the ready, and friendly chatter to keep me at ease - thanks to them I was soon ready to go back to the ward.

Everyone involved in my care was so kind, caring and professional and I can't thank them enough. I would highly recommend this hospital to everyone - having been an inpatient with another health authority (which was appalling and dirty by the way) and who showed no respect for patient care, West Cornwall Hospital on the other hand was the total opposite - it was almost like being treated privately.

When my husband returned to sit with me until my discharge, he was also offered refreshments as often as I was - needless to say, we were very impressed as other hospitals will only let the patient themselves have drinks, relatives are usually told to use the vending machines or cafeterias!

What could be improved

Nothing

Anything else?

A big Thank You to all the staff at West Cornwall Hospital, Penzance who were involved in any way with my care - you are all wonderful. Keep up the good work, you are superlative to all others, the pinnacle of the NHS.
