"My father was a patient in June ..."

About: The Great Western Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

My father was a patient in June 2008 which I appreciate is over a year ago but the memory stays with me.

The ambulance crew, AE staff and ICU staff were wonderful.

What could be improved

Ampney ward, which is I believe, a short stay surgical ward, was truly awful. The staff who looked after my father were arrogant, uncaring and unfeeling. I could write an essay on the things that were not done or not recorded or on the pain and distress my father suffered but feel there is little point. I did complain at the time and he was transferred to ICU. I dont know what we would have done if that had not happened.

Anything else?

I feel that the people that quite often suffer the most from ineptitude and poor care in hospitals are the elderly. They are the people who have the least access to this method of making their feelings known.
