"Hip Replacement - Balborough treatment centre (ISTC)"

About: Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre

(as the patient),

For the first 2 or 3 days after my operation for a hip replacement one is in pain and discomfort, but all the staff at Barlborough ISTC did everything they could to ease this. The age group of the staff is just right; staff too young do not have the experience and pride.

The transport home from the hospital wasn't appropriate for knee or hip replacement patients. I had to climb high into the front seat of a people carrier type vehicle and sat very uncomfortable all the way home.

I felt embarrassed that I was not wearing any underwear when going down to theatre; I should have been given paper knickers, from a woman’s point of view.

I found that Elsie (the night nurse) couldn't do enough for you, her personality and attitude to her work was unbelievable and exactly how it should be in all hospitals. I also felt that the anesthetist and consultant were very good, but the wait for surgery could have been better, but it wasn't that bad.
