"Unexpected visit"

About: The Royal Liverpool University Hospital

Mum was staying at the Adelphi on a midweek break and collapsed. She was admitted to 3B ward and Coronary Care where she stayed for six days. I traveled up on Wednesday and stayed for three days. During this time we were allowed open access visiting as we had traveled from South Wales. We were kept informed of all interventions and the staff were extremely supportive of my dad during an understandably anxious time. The ward was spotless and the domestic staff were friendly and courteous and involved the patients in conversation. The person who gave out meals and teas was lovely and made mum and dad feel special as they acknowledged they were from away and were anxious. I'm afraid I am unable to remember individual staff names but everyone was outstanding and provided a very individualised and personalised high standard of care. The unit is a credit to the hospital and the lovely sister who dealt with mums situation in a most caring and professional manner should be proud of all their staff. We did feel saddened however that the hospital had deemed it necessary to provide a complaints department. We would have preferred to address our gratitude to the management personally and feel that access to a commendations department would have allowed us to do this.
