"avoid ward 9"

About: Wexham Park Hospital

i have a lung disease and managed to get Flu so ended up in ITU. the care i received was excellent and cannot be faulted but when i was well enough i was then transferred to ward 9, the respiratory ward. Because i had flu i was put into a side room and told i was in isolation and had to stay away from other patients ( totally understandable) the room had no shower or toilet and was not even close to either but i did have a sink.i felt well so considered myself a bit of a fraud but i needed drips etc so tried not to moan too much, The problem was the medication gave me chronic diarrhea and i found myself having several accidents - i would be in my little side room, with poo down my legs and up my back, unable to move ringing my buzzer for a commode but it never came, i waited and waited but the buzzer was ignored, in the end i rang the ward and begged for the commode and help to be cleaned up. this happened 3 times. i have never felt so degraded and humiliated in my life. I don't know if there was a shortage of staff but i do know that the nurse looking after me on the last few days seemed to be the only one working - all i heard was their name being screamed down the corridor along with instructions. On departure i was sent to the discharge lounge - no complaints about the lounge - lovely people in lovely comfortable surroundings but why did it take over 6 hours for the pharmacy to get me 4 boxes of tablets?

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. I would like to apologise for the experience you had on Ward 9, and for the wait for your medication. This is not the standard the Trust expects, and in order for us to learn from this and improve for future patients I would be grateful if you could contact Michelle Youens directly on michelle.youens@fhft.nhs.uk. I am pleased to read that ITU and the discharge lounge staff and care was good, and I will pass on these comments to those teams too Kind Regards Claire Marshall Head of Patient Involvement
