I injured my foot a couple of years ago, and have ended up being referred to the Orthotics Department at Hereford County Hospital. I have had 3 appointments so far; 2 for review and planning, and a 3rd for fitting. I absolutely hate being anywhere near a medic, and go straight into panic mode at the surgery or hospital. However, the Orthotist I have seen has, without any effort on their part, made me feel at ease. They were careful, attentive, and makes sensible suggestions about ways forward, and it is this attitude that I have found so reassuring. I feel they go beyond the call of duty. To add to the good experiences so far, I have not had to wait for long. Someone like me - sick at the thought of hospital - finds that the inevitable hanging about to be seen in other departments merely adds to the stress. If only all hospital areas could operate in such a caring, efficient way.
