I really cannot praise the staff at Herm Ward at Alderney Hospital too highly. My mum moved there in January after an incredibly difficult few months of rapid-onset dementia. They managed her exceptionally well, with incredible care and compassion. This superb quality of care is about the whole culture of the place and the professionalism of everyone who works there, and not just a couple of good staff. It’s obvious that the staff in leadership positions set this standard by their own commitment and behaviour. It’s very noticeable that the place is kept scrupulously clean too! The way in which staff dealt with and supported us was also exceptional. They communicated with us very well and welcomed us when we visited, giving us regular cups of tea etc. Unfortunately, despite the hospital’s excellent care, my mum declined rapidly, both mentally and physically, and died in March. I will always be so grateful that the hospital kept her with them and gave her end-of-life care that was compassionate, sensitive and very dignified. It’s been a terrible time for my mum and for her family, but the saving grace is that we managed to get her here for the last couple of months of her life. I will never be able to express how grateful I feel for everything that they did.
"Excellent care on Herm Ward – makes you proud of..."
