"Poor treatment"

About: Hereford County Hospital

I attended A&E with a referral phone call from my oncologist in Birmingham. This meant I would be seen reasonably quickly. We were seen quickly, there was actually no-one in the waiting room despite it being a Saturday evening at 7pm. After teling the same story to 2 different people, one of whom was the triage nurse, the second the doctor, there appeared to be no record of the call made by my oncologist earlier. The doctor I saw in the Clinical Assessment Unit was unable to take a blood sample. The doctor tried once and then said they 'wouldn't bother'. As I was dehydrated the doctor gave me a 500ml bag of fluid and then asked for a urine sample which I managed to produce. Their physical exam was cursory even though I had given them a clear description of my symptoms, including those indicating the correct diagnosis.. The doctor diagnosed me with a urinary tract infection and sent me home with antibiotics. This despite the fact I was so weak I could barely stand, I was barely conscious, I was in pain and vomiting. The next day I did not improve, I was still vomiting and barely in touch with reality. On Monday my oncology team called from Birmingham to see how I was. They immediately asked me to come to their clinic where I was assessed and diagnosed with bowel obstruction. Fortunately I got the right treatment. I was told to stop taking the antibiotic as I did not have a urinary tract infection. My oncologist considered that my treatment in Hereford was so below standard that they wanted to make an official complaint. I asked them not too.
