"Excellent service at day surgery"

Recently my husband had to attend a day surgery appointment to treat a broken nose. Before the appointment he was very nervous by the whole treatment and the length of leave he was going to have to take. It would have been good to have more detail on how the day was going to be before the appointment to avoid so much anxiety. However, once in the appointment he felt at ease. Everyone looked after him very well and were very clear on how the procedure was going to take place. After the operation he praised the delicious ham sandwiches and the unlimited amount of orange juice he was provided for his recovery. He was constantly reassured by the staff. Everyone was very nice.

Thank you for sharing your husband’s experience of ENT surgery at Guy’s and St Thomas.’ I am glad to learn that your husband’s experience on the day was a positive one. I was concerned to read that he did not receive more detailed information from the hospital about what would happen during his treatment. This information should have been discussed before the day of the procedure and, in most cases, an information leaflet should have been given for the patient to refer to. I have shared your comments with the ENT department, who will liaise with their colleagues in Day Surgery to understand how this omission could have occurred.
