About: Leicester Royal Infirmary

Prior to moving to the area I was under the care of Cheltenham endocrine who were fabulous. Now I am under liecester and I'm considering relocating to get any level of humane Treatment. I was initially referred in the back end of 2014 and I called to say I would be away from the end of November until the end of December on holiday so couldn't attend appointments over tthat period. Was told it was noted. When I returned in January still no appointment so I went to my doctors who told me my appointment was on 9th of December and that I had missed the appointment. Was very annoyed but went through process of referral again. I was on the top level of medication the GP could give me so it was marked urgent as I was having palpations three or four times a day. My dad sadly passed away at 64 due to a heart attack so genuinely I was concern. I get given an appointment in April the 7th.. conditions got worse so another blood test and suddenly appointment brought forward to 23rd February. Happy days. Then while at the appointment I get accused by the doctor of not taking my medication. Three times I was asked.! Put on another tablet for six weeks and then We will review you and put you forward for Surgery. The lump in my neck gets bigger is very sore and uncomfortable so call the Clinic. Then have to call someone else. Finally get a call back and the consultant is impatient on the phone sounds disinterested and tells me if I can't breath go to Emergency. I can breath it is just painful. The doctor also says we may scan it on the 7th April (my follow up appointment at six weeks). I have planned my blood tests the week before as directed and today receive a letter saying the appointment has been moved back to the 15th July. That is 19 weeks after the appointment I should have had 6 week follow up for. called the clinic to be told that I had cancelled the Appointment. Which I have not. And told to call the secretary (who is a lovely person trying their best and is probably the only good thing about that place). Very upset and feeling very let down!!

Dear reviewer, Thank you for taking the time to post your comment. We are really sorry to hear about your experience of our Endocrinology department at the Royal Infirmary. This does not reflect the level of service we expect our patients to receive. We would like to investigate your concerns further so we can improve our service for future patients. If you are happy for us to do so, please send your details (name, address, date of birth and hospital number) to me, by emailing judith.spiers@uhl-tr.nhs.uk. Kind regards, Judith Spiers Matron for Leicester's Hospitals
