My sister collapsed screaming and convulsing in pain in mid-Dec, her partner rushed her to Nairn Hospital accident and emergency department where a nurse diagnosed kidney stones and sent her home despite the fact that she was still in severe agony. After a few weeks of being wrongly diagnosed, wrongly treated with antibiotics and continuing to suffer extreme pain, she was referred for a kidney scan at Raigmore hospital. Her kidneys were absolutely fine and healthy, however a large growth was discovered on her ovary and it became clear that the agony of mid-Dec had in fact been caused by this growth rupturing. She was told that they weren't sure what the growth was and would need urgent blood tests to rule out cancer. Due to further miscommunication between raigmore and Nairn healthcare, she didn't get this blood test for over a week. We were all distraught with worry in the meantime. Thankfully the blood test eventually came back clear and she was told she would be referred for surgery to remove the cyst which continues to cause considerable pain, exhaustion and other unpleasant symptoms.
My sister is struggling to get by at work, she has no social life and is generally very unwell and is suffering every minute of the day. She eventually got to see a consultant gynaecologist in late Feb. He was abrupt with her and caused her a lot of pain during her physical examination and did not apologise or even sympathise when she was brought to tears by the pain. He didn't offer her any information about her condition nor answer any of her questions. It is now the late March, she has no operation date in sight and is quite honestly doubtful, given how she has been treated, about letting anyone at Raigmore near her. However, she desperately needs this op. She has been told she won't even get a letter about her operation date, but "May get a phone call". I am appalled and dismayed at the way this whole situation has gone and that this poor lass has been in daily agony for over 3 months with no proper treatment and no end in sight.
"lengthy wait for ovarian cyst removal"
