"Great care and attention at Wishaw A&E"

Having been told by a receptionist at Lanark Surgery that my symptoms didn't require seeing a Doctor, I was made an appointment to see the practice nurse. I was diganosed as having a "virus" which didn't require treatment and to expect the virus to last at least a further two weeks. I was given an inhaler to ease my breathing and told to take paracetamol every 4 hours.

The following day my breathing had become much worse and I felt weaker so I attended Wishaw General emergency department as I was greatly concerned with the pain in my chest.

We all hear horror stories about waiting times and poor treatment at A & E's around the country. I have to say the care, professionalism and prompt attention I encountered were exemplary.

From reception, Ann-Marie, with the calm voice and quickness at taking my details, I didn't wait long to go through to triage where a lovely charge nurse Sharon took details of my symptoms for my initial assessment. Again very professional and great at putting me at ease which helped my breathing too.

It was not very long until Dr Kirsty came to the assessment room where I was waiting. Again such a lovely manner, very professional and calming. My chest was sounded and I was sent for a chest X-Ray by Dr Kirsty to rule out pneumonia.

I was prescribed antibiotic and bed rest for a chest infection.

Given that this is an Accident and Emergency dept and I was very concerned with my breathing, so not a great big emergency, I was still treated with great professionalism and care.

Once again I want to say just how grateful I am to have received great care and attention from the wonderful staff at Wishaw General Accident and Emergency Dept.
