"For someone who hates hospitals I have to say this was a fantastic experience"

About: Royal Stoke University Hospital / Infectious diseases

(as the patient),

I am totally deaf so I depend upon my eyes for lip reading which is my sole means of communication.

This section is with regards to the care I received earlier in the year on SPUR ward of the North Staffordshire University Hospital. I had a severe post op infection after having weight loss surgery abroad and was referred to North Staffordshire from Shrewsbury Hospital. It was a long business and I was taken into surgery twice in 2 days but I have to say the care I received was second to none. Particular care was taken over cleanliness even though I was in a side ward/room the whole 2 weeks I was there. The room was checked by an inspection every day and often twice a day. They were very thorough and particular that the infection would not spread or that I would not contact any other infections whilst there. The nursing staff and helping staff were very caring and cheerful, going out of their way to help me with communication. The facilities within the hospital were excellent with clearly marked, wide walk ways throughout.

For someone who hates hospitals I have to say this was a fantastic experience of how a hospital should be run. Even my aftercare was excellent when I had to return weekly to the ward. If I had to wait we were offered food/tea/coffee. That’s why I am choosing North Staffordshire again because I feel safe in their hands. Even though it’s not close.
