"Consistently long waits in Eye Dept Outpatients"

About: Conquest Hospital

I am a regular visitor to Ophthalmology outpatients department and find that I normally have to wait for up to two hours past my appointment time. As a wheelchair user I find a complete lack of facilities for wheelchair users. Due to the long delays there are often a number of wheelchair users waiting. We are left in the corridor (which is also a waiting area) and often have to be moved to let other users past. Not a nice feeling. I feel the staff have little understanding (and/or training in diversity) of chair users. These long delays for outpatients must also be contributing to the parking problems in the hospital car parks.

Thank you for letting us know about your regular experience of attending the Ophthalmology Outpatient Department at the Conquest hospital. We apologise that, as a wheelchair user, you have observed a distinct lack of facilities. We will ensure that your posting is forwarded to the manager of the department. This will enable them to look at ways to improve the experience for wheelchair users and discuss this with staff. In addition we shall make sure your comments are also shared with our Equality and Diversity Lead for consideration. As a Trust we aim to provide a high quality service to all our patients, therefore please accept our apologies for the fact that your experience has not been as good as it could have been. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for taking the time to provide useful feedback.
