What I liked

Nothing.

What could be improved

The staff could have been friendly and could have kept me informed of my progress. At 21 years old, I was on MAU with a ward full of 60+ year old women (after originally being placed on the mens ward). It was my first time in hospital. Not once did the staff ask me if I was ok. I eventually asked to have my curtains drawn as I was desperate for privacy, only for a nurse to come along a few minutes later and open then again.

We are very sorry to hear that your experience was not as we would have liked.

MAU (now called the Acute Care unit C takes emergency patients before moving them to more appropriate wards within the hospital. We try to keep our bays single sex as much as possible, but depending on the emergencies the bays may be mixed for a short period of time whilst staff move beds. We are sorry to hear that you did not have enough privacy whilst on the ward, however, leaving the curtains closed for lengthy periods of time can impede our view of other patients. We would expect that staff would have made every effort to improve the situation for you at the time if they had been made aware of your concerns.

With regards to the lack of communication, again we are sorry that this was the case and this has been fed back to the staff on the ward. Please do contact our PALS Team if you would like to discuss any of this further.
