"The nurses always seemed to be ..."

About: Frenchay Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

The nurses always seemed to be smiling on ward 105 and 206. Lots of apron wearing and gloves which made me think my daughter was safe. Lots of cleaning of beds and tables as well. The place smelt of bleach from floor washing as well. I think there was enough staff but they were constanly on the go.

What could be improved

I heard the doctor complain to another that my daughter should have been on a surgical ward not medical. That's where the out of hours doctor was told to send her and the surgical team would support from there.

Car parking - atrocious. Too many people and too short a visiting time. I had to go home on several occasions as I couldn't park and come back an hour later when some people had cleared out. Her boyfriend parked in side streets and walked in. (He wasn't carrying a bag of pyjamas and towels for showering). It was also annoying to see spaces reserved for staff which were vacant but I knew i would get clamped if I had used it.

Anything else?

The pharmacy messed up my daughters medication. She has steroids and the dose was 3x3times per day. Two days after her release the doctor phoned and said the pharmacy has messed up your dose should be - 3x1times per day. If it had been anything else there could have been very serious consequences.

The nurse weren't bothered if she had her contraceptive pill or not while under their care. That was not good and caused a bleed.
