I attend my GP regularly as suffer from fibromyalgia and costochondritis.
I attended my GP late January/ early February and the locum GP agreed a referral to breast clinic and X-ray for costochondritis. I went back to GP, as had X-ray appointment but not appointment for breast clinic, attended GP on 2nd March and asked to come back next day to see lady doctor on 3rd March who examined me, confirmed further breast lumps and made priority referral to breast clinic as previous referral had not been made.
Letter received to attend for mammogram in late March at Crosshouse Hospital with further letter to attend breast surgeon clinic 2 days later for results of mammogram and further investigations if required, all completed on that day.
I attended for mammogram on Tuesday, twice on right breast, and three times of left, which had me concerned. However wasn't too concerned as had appointment in only 48 hours. Got called in to meet with clinician, further examined informed that the mammogram showed a further three lumps on left breast, and that it could "simply be" fibro cystic lumps relating to menopause (I'm only 43), however an ultrasound would determine anything sinister.
I asked if I should return to the waiting area and wait to be called, as previous patients before me had been shown through to X-ray for ultrasound, however I was then informed that it would be yet another wait of up to 2-3 weeks as they had no slots left which covered that day's clinic.
"Referral to Breast Clinic - unacceptable waiting times"
