"It should not have taken 2 hours to have been given this advice"

About: South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as a carer),

My partner, who is the very early stages of pregnancy, was coughing up blood on the early hours of a Saturday morning when I called 999 for help. The ambulance came very quickly, I didn’t have a problem with that. However, there was only the trainee paramedic who was taking any proper action to examine my partner. The other two were far more interested in our 9 month old puppy.

They were with us until 3: 00am – two hours almost. The trainee paramedic was recommending that my partner should be taken to hospital for further checks but the other two said to leave her at home and for her to see her GP.

It should not have taken 2 hours to have been given this advice, they would have finished a lot earlier if they had not been fussing over the puppy for so long.
