"Maternity experience"

About: Kingston Hospital

Hello, My wife just had a baby in the maternity wing and our overall experience was very positive. They have a great staff. Kudos to everyone involved with such a great dedication. Receptionists, midwifes, anesthetists, surgeons, pediatrician, etc. They truly did their best despite heavy workload and tremendous pressure. After giving birth, the room we had was shared with 3 other couples and their babies, We stayed 4 days - 3 nights - in total. My wife and the baby were in good health so we could leave after normal resting time. In my opinion a few things needs drastic improvements: * Patient food * The food taste was terrible, primarily made of what looks and taste like cheap microwaved meals. There was nothing cooked on site as far as I know. Almost everyone in my room skipped the hospital meals and had their food brought externaly by family members. Patient are also required to go outside their rooms and queue to have their meals, someone would start shooting in the corridor *food is ready* like in the army. * No Air Conditioning* There was no AC in the hospital except in the operating theater. This is a major issue for the healing process, especially in a room with so much patients and their visitors. Kitchen had to leave the door open due to heat issues while cleanning the dishes, right in front of our room door, waking up resting patients etc.. *Smokers at the main entrance gate* There was a tremendous amount of smokers on site, especially at the front gate of maternity wing. I had to ask several people to move away from it for obvious reasons. Sometimes it looked like a pub entrance. There were no wardens to enforce it. Again, we were very pleased with our overall experience and would like to thanks everyone at Kingston Hospital Maternity Wing, especially to the staff working without days-off for several weeks like we saw. Best Regards.
