"Suffering with stress and sleepless nights"

I had private BUPA cover through work but I know I cannot afford any extra charges from private healthcare if I ever faced them. Only being 25 and having joint problems, I decided to seek some specialist help as nothing was helping me or my joints. I went to the BMI Edgbaston to see a specialist and he asked for me to have some blood tests done at the BMI Priory Hospital in Birmingham. Now as part of Bupa cover they state that we must ask what the charges will be incase they go over how much Bupa covers us. Me and my fiance both asked about these charges and made sure they would not go over how much Bupa covers me for as we have no money to pay extra charges. The specialist assured us it would be covered in my insurance and so I, trusting them, went to the hospital to get these tests done. I then went to the receptionist and the nurse and asked again how much each test would cost. And what happens? I ended up with a bill of about £1800! Bupa covered £1000 of this and I was charged £800. Both, the people at the hospital who took my blood samples, and the specialist both stated that this would be covered under my insurance. I was told a false amount about these tests. I was not told how many tests would be done on my blood samples. I was told there would be a few tests at £50 each, a few in my dictionary is definitely not about 15 tests. There were a lot of tests done; most were definitely not at £50 each. I have quite clearly been misled. Even after asking if they were sure this would be the cost. I made sure of this again and again, at each stage of my treatment and even asked for written details of the costs and the nurses were clearly too lazy to do this for me as they assured me that this would be the case and that I did not need written details. Nobody was specific to me about pricing or I would not have consented to having the injections. Bupa clearly states that we must ask how much our treatment will cost so the pricing does not go over what they allow. I made sure I did this, as I knew I could not afford treatment I would have to pay for. I feel lied to and mislead. I have written countless letters to the executive director at the BMI and it feels as though they are not reading my letters and keep telling me I have been billed the right amount. They are not even considering what I'm actually saying in my letters and what actually happened or how I was charged this much when I was told this would not be the case. My trust in the BMI has completely disappeared. As if bad joints at 25 was not enough stress; I am suffering from depression, stress and sleepless nights because of this and I am just not being heard by the BMI Priory Hospital. I have a lot of financial responsibility upon me already and I feel like I cannot cope with it all anymore and this has not helped one bit. Is this the care that doctors and private healthcare should be giving us? Surely being mislead in this way deserves some response.
