"Visit to GP today"

About: South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw

(as the patient),

I booked an appointment this morning as a result of ongoing chronic back pain, I have been a patient here for many years and the service has always been outstanding with some superb doctors.

Sadly today I was unfortunate to see a doctor who my partner has seen in the past and stated to me how ignorant this doctor was, barely looking up from their computer and the sound of their mobile receiving messages did nothing to reassure me. To my horror, my partner was entirely accurate. This doctor looked me in the eye twice, both times when pointedly ending my appointment without prescribing me any pain relief, which I had to ask for. Although the doctor did refer me for a scan they didn't even examine me much less question my explanation of symptoms. I even had to ask the doctor to look at my record as they had not even bothered to do this much. This GP clearly does not enjoy their profession or value their training, seeming to simply want to write some notes and move on to the next poor patient unfortunate enough to to end up there. I felt completely dismissed, utterly ignored and in doubt of this doctor's experience. I later called back to attempt to get another appointment with someone who was interested in patient care to be told I would have to wait a further week. I had clearly explained that I was unable to reach the toilet in the night due to the extreme pain, unable to move freely for at least an hour on waking for work and in chronic pain, none of this mattered to this doctor, just ticks in their appointment box. I also spoke to the previous patient in the chemist who was equally despondent with her care, please can some training or consultation be done with this jaded and disinterested medical practitioner? I just wanted reassurance, pain relief and to be listened to, sadly I was palmed off without the basic courtesy and recognition of a fellow human being in pain.
