I presented my 6 yr old son with a suspected broken thumb at 7.40pm at A&E. The reception staff took time to speak to my son directly, and gave him a teddy bear to hold his name band. We were directed to the new children's waiting room. This is such a massive improvement, shielding children from the sometimes frightening experiences of the main waiting room. There were lots of toys to play with, a separate toilet with baby changing facilities, a water cooler, and an interactive projector showing fish swimming in the sea etc, that responds when walked on. We were seen quickly, sent to xray, where we had a very short wait, and then after a wait of perhaps 25 minutes were reseen, the injury was established and the thumb was strapped up. From walking through the door to leaving with an appointment at the trauma clinic a week later, we were in and out in 1 hr 15 minutes. Ten out of ten Airedale General Hospital, and thank you to everyone involved in my son's care.
