"Night from hell"

About: Royal Blackburn Hospital

I recently had the misfortune to spend 24 hours in Blackburn hospital- far to long. It was a 8 bedded ward which I thought modern hospitals no longer had. This meant there was noise all night long. I actually managed 1/2 hour's sleep before the lights were put on at 5.30. I know why this happens but I doubt if many patients would voluntarily wake up at this time so it is for the benefit of the hospital system not the patient. The radio was then put on for the rest of the day. Has anyone asked the patients if they want the radio on and who chooses the station? The food was inedible. The hot food had been kept warm too long so was dried out and the papacy of the ingredients was masked by a too highly spiced sauce. I didn't have a sandwich but from what I could see it was plastic bread and plastic filling. Is this really expected to aid recovery. I couldn't wait to get home. Having said all that the nursing staff were wonderful. Caring, cheerful and helpful

Dear Anonymous Many thanks for your feedback on your experience of our Royal Blackburn Hospital site, thank-you for taking the time to do so and I can only apologise that your experience was not a good one despite our nurses being caring and cheerful. I would really appreciate being able to narrow down which area and ward you were on so that I can address some of the concerns you raise in your comments. Could you please get in touch on the details below so that I can do this? Our Patient Experience team would appreciate you getting in touch so we can understand the bits of your experience that made this such a poor visit for you so that we can try to improve things for every patient visiting our hospitals and services. You can either contact me (Wendy Stobbs) on 01254 734471/ 01254 733704 or email me on wendy.stobbs@elht.nhs.uk. Or if you would like to share your experience in confidence with an independent organisation please contact Healthwatch BwD on 01254 504985 or info@healthwatchblackburnwithdarwen.co.uk Many thanks again for commenting and best wishes on your continued recovery Wendy Stobbs, Senior Patient Experience Facilitator
