"Positive experience of colonoscopy at Treliske"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / General surgery

(as the patient),

I recently had a colonoscopy at Treliske. I would like to thank Doctor Hussaini and all of the nursing staff on the ward for helping make this a positive experience. Before the procedure I read as widely as I could on the internet and found mostly horror stories. I was very apprehensive about it. I wanted to have the procedure done without the sedative if possible.

It went very well, I felt minor discomfort twice as the scope was going around the bends but nothing too bad and I didn't need the sedative just the painkiller. I can't praise Dr Hussaini and his team enough. I was treated with the utmost dignity and respect and everything was explained fully to me. I could not have asked for better treatment.

The surgery was running late but I was fully informed as to why and understand that this could not have been foreseen.

I would advise anyone who has to have a colonoscopy that the procedure is not as bad as they probably imagine. I am a total wuss and I managed very well.

I hope my experience helps other people to approach their procedure with a positive outlook and not be too worried.
