"Poor communication skills, aftercare and bedside..."

About: The Eastman Dental Hospital

I under went a wisdom tooth extraction with local anaesthetic but without sedation. There were un-forseen complications during the procedure and the doctor operating on me had to ask for assistance from a senior colleague. What should have been a 5 minute procedure took some 45 minutes. It was hugely painful and I didn't feel like I was well treated, talked over - the general bed-side manner during the whole procedure was very much lacking. I also found (only at the follow up appointment) that a small part of my jaw was removed by accident. I had asked to see the tooth after the procedure but was told it had been taken away. I was given no medications (pain relief) which I think terrible considering a part of my jaw had been removed. I found the whole episode traumatic, made worse by the doctors talking over me and being generally unsympathetic. The follow up appointment was also found to be unsatisfactory. My 'dissolvable' stitches 2 1/2 weeks on were still there. These were painfully removed without anaesthetic and I was told they had remained because I had 'the wrong saliva'!
