"My broken leg"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust

(as the patient),

the bone in my leg is not mending I want to go back to work and need a exogen machine I have read about but my hospital in Nottingham doesn't have them. I asked the nurse about it she said 'we don't use them here'. Other hospitals do! nice have looked at this and say it works and it saves money. I have seen videos on the internet from other hospitals in country where they use this. I need to go back to work I haven't worked since my accident over 2 years ago. I also care for my dad which is impossible now as I cant walk. This is effecting my whole family not just me. it is ridiculous a post code lottery. I can have another operation though the last 2 haven't worked. I don't want more operations. I am a positive person but I feel down and depressed about my situation. I wish I could afford to pay private I am not asking for cosmetic surgery I need my leg back. It may as well be taken off and I will have a false leg and stay on benefits.

Thank you for taking time to leave your feedback. We agree that the Exogen machine would benefit many patients. It is something we would wish to be using for this reason. You are correct that the Exogen machine has been approved by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). However, this is not funded by our local commissioners. We heard last week that our formal application was unsuccessful. We will, however, continue to pursue these discussions.
