"Overall a positive experience - some frustrations..."

Antenatal. I chose PRUH over Pembury for a variety of reasons including takeover by Kings, but mainly for its proximity to Sevenoaks (and A21 has terrible roadworks). Whilst I was entitled to go "out of area" - driven by county boundaries - the entire antenatal process was at best "muddled". Luckily this was my 2nd so knew what needed to be done but administratively I felt blocked at every appointment and neither the hospital or local midwives took any accountability over my care. Due to my age and history I was also seeing the Drs who also seemed to be disconnected from the midwives. Labour Ended up being induced which was a slow process. Had several painful exams - some midwives were better than others - and eventually a Dr managed to break my waters. Thereafter felt that I could make my own choices on my care and got the epidural I wanted. Things got hectic towards the end and the head midwife started arguing with the agency midwife caring for me (and at one point I had 3 staff trying to find a vein - 4 weeks later I still have nerve damage). Luckily the shift ended and a new team started who were amazing. Ended up having an emergency forceps delivery which was a hideous experience but the medical team were very competent and the evening midwife I ended up with was fantastic. Postnatal Whilst the postnatal ward is cramped i preferred the company than being on my own in a single room. There were planty of staff around, I had to call quite a bit (immobile due to catheter) and was seen v quickly each time. Much better care than what I experienced at Kingston where I had my daughter.
