"Admin issues caused me to have a Panic Attack"

About: Royal Hallamshire Hospital

(as the patient),

I was sent a letter advising of an admission date for an MRI scan under sedation

I duly went into the Hallamshire Hospital in Oct, stayed overnight (which in itself has caused stress as I am suffering from Acute Depression and do not like to be away from Husband and family).

The next morning I had to ask for the sedation as I had been advised on the phone the previous day my scan was booked late morning.

I was given the sedation at around 10.40 and by lunch time no one had been to take me for my scan.

The staff nurse came to me advising she had bad news as she had been advised that I had been brought in on the wrong day.

At this time I went in full panic and advised that due to my fear of scans/clostraphobia they had caused me loads of unnecessary stress. Eventually a few minutes before the porter came, the nurse came to give me more sedation.

I was taken down to waiting area and the curtains drawn around me which caused me to have a major panic attack. The nurse opened the curtain behind me which made no differance, I was shaking and crying unable to open my eyes.

When ther nurse from scanner came to fetch me I was so wound up that the sedation had not even worked, I was unable to go ahead with the scan and was taken back to the ward, had a blood test and discharged!!!!

Now awaiting correspondance for future appointment.
