"Kingsmill Hospital.Abbott Ward 1 - great care!"

About: King's Mill Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I went into Kingsmill Hospital on 24/04/07 for a hysterectomy, I was admitted onto Ward 1 Abbott. After waiting two hours for a bed, I was getting rather anxious.Apart from the anaethetist I had seen no one else, the nurses were extremely busy though. I got gowned and waited I knew I was last on the list and was told my op would be about 4pm.

The nurse who took me to theatre was jolly and joined me in the conversation with the porter.I felt totally at ease.I didn't take the anaesetic well and didn't go back to the ward till nearly 9pm.Although I was really groggy I could hear loads of activity. There were several emergancies through the night, however when I awoke I was greeted by three nurses asking about my pain, how I felt, did I need anything? The doctor came round shortly after, I felt well enough to get out of bed ten minutes and they sat me in my chair and told me to buzz as soon as I wanted to go back to bed.

No sooner had I buzzed then a nurse arrived.

Throughout my stay (I was discharged 27/04/07) I was amazed at the commitment/dedication of all the teams of nurses. At no time did I think "Oh, not her".All the nurses were friendly and couldn't do enough for all the patients. Each staff nurse ran a tight ship, all having great respect of each other and their patients.Enough bad press about our NHS this is NHS at it's best. Although I wanted to go home, I would have been quite happy to stay, I really felt part of a large family.

Not only were the nurses the best the other workers on the ward were hard working and great, the catering staff and cleaners did all they could to make things as comfortable as possible and the ward and toilets were spotless.

Our NHS is a great thing when it works correctly and this is how things should be done.Even throught the night the nurses didn't stop working, if they weren't tending to patients they were doing paperwork.

A massive THANK YOU to ALL at Ward 1 Abbott. Your great work definately made my recovery easy.
