I snapped a crucial ligament playing basketball in my thirties. This was diagnosed as a severe sprain at Leeds General A&E.
A scan 20 years later showed that I was missing my ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) and I waited three years for surgery.
No beds were available on the day of my operation so I was left on a trolley in the corridor with a nurse until my wife was told to come and collect me at 9.30pm the same day as the nurse was going off duty. I lost confidence in the NHS after this experience.
