Yesterday I visited an elderly aunt who had a stroke 5 weeks ago. A nurse asked if I could come back to take her to see a doctor for an appointment as they were short staffed. I thought it odd as I have to travel 30 miles but agreed. I arrived this morning to find, what I thought was plenty of staff wandering about or shuffling papers. I was then told by my aunt that she had been told by another nurse that the doctor would now be visiting the ward. As she has been a little confused by recent events, understandably, I thought I would check at the nurses station. There I was told that no, her notes indicate that she is to go to the doctor. I returned to my aunt who had not been prepared to go out of her room to tell her this when yet another nurse came into the room to tell me that the doctor is indeed coming to the ward, not at the appointment time, but at some time (unspecified) during the next few hours.
I now think that my aunt isn't at all confused by the stroke, but is being made so by this chaotic method of running a service.
"Very confusing for me let alone elderley patients"
