"My experience at the Hallamshire after my ECG"

About: Royal Hallamshire Hospital / Cardiology

(as the patient),

Asked to go for an ecg by my gp which resulted in a 3 night stay in the Hallamshire hospital. My heartbeat was racing and erratic and they asked me to stay until they sorted it. I had to wait till 11.20pm for a bed in the emergency admissions unit but truthfully the time passed very quickly and I met some amazing people who were waiting for test results or were patients using the out patient area where there was a TV.

The stay on hospital passed very quickly too, reasonable food, one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. The staff were friendly yet professional and although busy found time to talk to the patients. Special thanks to Sean, Hannah and Yousef.

I was visited by the doctor on a daily basis and also met the senior houseman and the head of the department who all explained my medical condition, the treatment I needed and took the time to answer any questions I had.

The ward was clean and tidy and the non medical staff were friendly and helpful.

It is 27 years since I last had to stay in hospital and I can honestly say that it was much better this time.

If I have any negative comments /constructive criticism to make it is that there wasn't any TV available, nor a patients lounge but perhaps this is because of the type of ward I stayed on. For those patients who didn't need to remain in bed this might have been useful.

I appreciated every minute of my stay and the care which the staff gave to me.
