"Dignity"

About: King George Hospital

The hospital gown reaches to the knee, leaving the urine collection bag on view to every passerby. Lying on the bed there was no blanket to a) reduce the embarrassment of having this visible to everyone and b) for warmth. Had to use own clothing to cover lower body. Tried to draw curtain across side of bed to give a little privacy only for staff to pull it back.

I am very sorry to hear this was the case when you visited our Urology department. Our patients’ dignity is of our utmost concern and I am pleased to say that we are in the process of changing to a new type gown that gives a much greater degree of dignity. Yours sincerely Wendy Matthews Interim Chief Nurse
