"Fantastic antenatal and postnatal care by..."

About: St Michael's Hospital (Bristol)

I gave birth to my son by elective C-section on February 6th 2015, after stays on Wards 71 and 74, and in the induction suite. I can honestly say that, despite a couple of hiccups, the care I received was absolutely second-to-none, and was carried out by caring and dedicated staff, particularly the midwives and midwifery assistants and the surgical team. There wasn't a single moment where I felt that staff were too busy to help me, and after I'd had my baby and couldn't move, nothing was too much trouble for them. Day and night I was taken care of by people who really cared about their patients, and I'm sure that I have them to thank for the ease with which my baby has taken to breast-feeding. I do have a couple of criticisms - firstly that my obstetric team were a bit hung-ho about inducing me, when it transpired later that I wasn't a suitable candidate (24 hours of pain, vomiting and no sleep could've been avoided). Secondly, that there was poor communication between the obstetric team and the staff on the ward - this resulted in my being 'bumped' from the surgical list and having to wait another 24 hours (and being nil-by-mouth for 11 hours whilst 38 weeks pregnant) to meet my baby. However, these two experiences are minor in comparison to the rest of my care, and I want to thank everyone who looked after me. The Maternity service at St. Michael's is a valuable resource, which I feel very lucky to have been able to utilise.
