The hospital is convenient and very easy to find using public transport. I was admitted at mid day on a Wednesday for a total knee replacement. I was shown to my room, given chance to settle in, and given a food menu. I was seen by an Anaesthetist who explained clearly the different techniques of anaesthesia, and chose an epidural. Shortly after I was escorted to the theatre on foot by two nurses who made me feel at home. In the theatre I was given the anaesthetic, and although permitted to listen to my I pod, I was drowsy, and not quite aware. The Consultant carried out my operation which caused me absolutely no trauma whatsoever, and seemed to be over in no time. I then spent some time in the recovery room before being returned to my own room. I received my chosen food and drink shortly afterwards. Overnight the nurses monitored my situation regularly causing as little disturbance as they could. The following day I was seen by the nurses regularly and the physiotherapists who helped me out of bed and encouraged me to get onto my feet with walking aids. I was given a menu and asked for my choice of food and drinks, which were served by pleasant staff three times a day along with a drink mid morning and mid afternoon. I continued to practise walking around the room on crutches, and read up on the exercises I was to perform regularly on returning home. On Thursday evening I was seen by the Consultant who was monitoring my progress. On Friday morning the physiotherapist showed me how to walk up and down stairs using crutches, and then how to do the same using sticks as my condition improved. Back in the room the nurses continued to monitor my progress, as I started light exercises. On Friday afternoon I was given my supply of medicine, and allowed home later. Finally I would add that I am 62 years of age and this had been my first visit to hospital. My extreme thanks go out to the Consultant, and all the staff on Ingleborough Ward who looked after me from start to finish with great care and dignity. Thank you all and good luck for the future, Andrew Lockwood.
"Extremely happy."
