"Outstanding maternity services and birthing centre"

About: Princess Alexandra Hospital (Harlow)

I gave birth to my second child in May 2014. I'd previously given birth in another hospital and had a terrible experience so was very keen to give birth my second time in PAH as I'd heard good reviews. I was lucky enough to have a community midwife look after me in my home throughout my pregnancy and she was just wonderful and so knowledgeable. I told her about all my previous experiences with my first child and felt reassured this would not happen again. I really wanted a water birth with only minimal pain relief and for the least intervention possible during labour. I was very surprised to give birth in just 40 minutes and it was the most wonderful, perfect experience, just how I wanted it! The midwife was so calming and relaxing. After giving birth to my little boy I was made to feel very comfortable in the post natal area. Midwives were around throughout the night and brought me numerous cartons of orange juice!! They also helped me with feeding my little one and making sure we were both ok. The same level of care also continued the following day. I really 'enjoyed' my time at PAH birthing unit and would recommend it to anyone. My only negative was that they offered no vegetarian food option and could only make me a cheese sandwich which was less than desirable rather than a hot option. I am full of so much praise towards this birthing centre and it's caring staff, so much so I am considering volunteering when my little ones gets a bit older to offer help/support like I had to other new mums.
