"NHS at its best"

About: Accrington Victoria Hospital

I am a 64 year old patient with Parkinson's Disease. Over the years my family have had cause to attend the Minor Injuries Unit and the walk-in centre a few times and always had excellent treatment. In January I attended following a knee injury. I was seen by a triage nurse in less than 10 minutes, and by the nurse practitioner 10 minutes later. She was very thorough, assured me there was nothing seriously wrong, and gave advice on knee care. The following day I received a phone call from Age UK asking if I was managing at home, and if I needed any help. The day after that I had another call from the Integrated Occupational and Physiotherapy Team offering to visit me at home. I explained that I wasn't bad enough to need a home visit, so a referral was made for me to attend the Physio Outpatient team and I got an appointment 10 days later. I cannot praise everybody at Accrington Victoria highly enough. It's proof that small facilities like this can provide personalised treatment just as well, if not better than large centralised hospitals. Its what the whole of the NHS should be aiming for.

Dear Anonymous First of all apologies for the lateness of my response but I have been on annual leave for a week. Many thanks for your feedback on your experience of our Minor Injuries Unit at Accrington Victoria Hospital, and thank-you for taking the time to do so. I will make sure your appreciation is passed onto the teams concerned who will be very pleased to hear that your recent experience with us was really positive as we always strive to deliver safe, personal & effective care. It is especially good to hear about the 'joined up' working you mention. If you would like to talk through your visit to us with one of our Patient Experience team so we can understand the bits of your experience that made this such a good visit for you we would really value this so that we can try to make it like this for every patient visiting our hospitals and services. You can either contact me (Wendy Stobbs) on 01254 734471/ 01254 733704 or email me on wendy.stobbs@elht.nhs.uk. Or if you would like to share your experience in confidence with an independent organisation please contact Healthwatch BwD on 01254 504985 or info@healthwatchblackburnwithdarwen.co.uk Many thanks again for commenting and best wishes on your continued recovery Wendy Stobbs, Senior Patient Experience Facilitator
