I am a 64 year old patient with Parkinson's Disease. Over the years my family have had cause to attend the Minor Injuries Unit and the walk-in centre a few times and always had excellent treatment. In January I attended following a knee injury. I was seen by a triage nurse in less than 10 minutes, and by the nurse practitioner 10 minutes later. She was very thorough, assured me there was nothing seriously wrong, and gave advice on knee care. The following day I received a phone call from Age UK asking if I was managing at home, and if I needed any help. The day after that I had another call from the Integrated Occupational and Physiotherapy Team offering to visit me at home. I explained that I wasn't bad enough to need a home visit, so a referral was made for me to attend the Physio Outpatient team and I got an appointment 10 days later. I cannot praise everybody at Accrington Victoria highly enough. It's proof that small facilities like this can provide personalised treatment just as well, if not better than large centralised hospitals. Its what the whole of the NHS should be aiming for.
