In December 2014 my 87 year old father who has MND spent two days in Ilchester Ward with pneumonia. He was keen to be at home for Christmas and the Acute Hospital at Home team were brilliant! They visited twice daily, to check on Dad medically, which was reassuring both to him and us as his family, as he was still quite poorly. But above and beyond the professional task, were the warm, kind nurses who genuinely seemed to care about Dad and how he was progressing. It seems to me to be a great scheme that can get patients home earlier than they would otherwise be able to, freeing up beds and resources for others and from speaking to the nurses who visited, providing a real sense of professional pride and achievement in what they are doing. It will not be the right service for everyone but for Dad it was a great team and a great service and I hope it can be maintained/expanded so that others can benefit. Thank You
