"Impressed & grateful"

About: Stepping Hill Hospital

What a wonderful experience. Admitted to A&E early afternoon on Monday having suffered a number of mild heart attacks over the previous few days. Felt another starting at midnight on Monday but no need to worry as A&E nursing staff quickly nipped it in the bud by introducing me to the use of a GTN spray for the first time ever. Panic over. Unknowingly I had apparently suffered with angina symptoms for years without realising it. I thought it was just indigestion and shortage of breath caused by my COPD. Transferred to Ward C4 on Tuesday just in time to enjoy a lovely lunch. All the food on C4 was really good but especially so at breakfast with lots of toast (freshly made on the ward). Only had to wait until Thursday for an angiogram. This was performed at Wigan cardiac catheter laboratory. Massively impressed with everyone involved in the procedure. Great teamwork all round. Two stentings fitted essentially solving the cholesterol blockage problems. All this was done in one day and I was back on C4 by suppertime (would have been much earlier but delayed by ambulance availability issues in late December). Given the all clear to return home Friday evening after a hurriedly arranged last minute echo test and of course with the obligatory bag full of medication. All done and dusted in just over 4 days. Simply unbelievable. Back home in good time to enjoy Christmas after all. Since then the follow up aftercare has been terrific and the cardiac rehabilitation classes are both enjoyable and hugely worthwhile in so many ways. Doubt if anyone has ever had a better overall experience even in the private sector. Well done NHS and everyone involved in delivering such an excellent service. You are all to be congratulated. Keep it up. I am immensely grateful and would like to extend my thanks to everyone involved.
