I was prescribed a contact lens for Keratoconus, after collecting it, I was given another appointment to come back after a few months. I then had to call them to let them know that I would be working abroad so I could not make the appointment. At which point they said that was okay and they would arrange another appointment, which I did not receive. I wasn't very concerned about this until recently when I needed a replacement contact lens. At this point, I was told I had been discharged as I did not attend my appointment, and therefore could not order a contact lens. If I still wanted one, I would have to get my GP to refer me again. Which would mean getting another appointment, which would be approximately 2 months away. Does the NHS really expect its patients to walk around almost blind in one eye for two months before they can get a contact lens? Also the discharge procedure as explained by staff on the phone was that a patient would be discharged if they did not attend an appointment without letting them know in advance, which I did.
