"Huntsman 6"

About: Northern General Hospital

I stayed in hospital for 3 days in Sept 2014 (1-3) for major foot surgery. The surgical team were fantastic and all of my afterare since has been great. My only concerns about my stay were threefold. The health workers on the night shift really could not be bothered about answering the buzzers for any one on that ward. I was on a ward with quite elderly patients and they constantly kept having to press for assistance to get to the toilet, Myself included as I was non weight bearing. When I asked about having anti sickness tablets to help me keep food down, I was ignored for ages. The food was not very good, in fact I was given a meal that was still partially frozen. I did complain at the time but was not taken seriously. I was under the impression that I would be in hospital for a week but it was apparent that I was to be discharged as soon as possible. The therapist came round the day after my op to see how I could use the crutches as I was to be discharged. I was physially sick as I had not eaten anything due to the morphine. Only when I nearly fell over did she realise that I was in no fit state to be sent home. I have had many operations and this ward was my most unpleasant experience.

Dear Sir or Madam

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback on your recent stay on Huntsman 6. I was pleased to hear that the surgical team were fantastic and all of your aftercare since has been great, but it was also disappointing to hear about your experience of care on the ward. I am sorry that on this occasion your care on Huntsman 6 was not of the high standard we would expect at our Trust. We would like to be able to respond in more detail to you about this.

If you would like us to investigate your concerns further please do contact our Patient Services Team on either 0114 271 2400 or pst@sth.nhs.uk and they will take additional details from you.

Kind regards.
