"Lack of parking facilities"

About: Northampton General Hospital (Acute) / Ophthalmology

(as a relative),

Took my 83 yr old mother for Cataract Surgery today, I cannot fault the Nursing and Medical Care. However, what lets this Trust down big time is their lack of parking facilities. I have never experienced such appalling car parking in a Hospital in my life and I work for the NHS.

We were unable to park and time was getting closer to the when the surgery was due. We parked in a Disabled Bay, my mother uses a wheelchair and is waiting for her permit. I left a note saying that we were using a wheelchair plus paid for a ticket.

But we still got a ticket, which will be £88 if not paid in 28 days and £40 if paid in 14 days. Even Student Nurses are expected to pay £10 a day to go on duty! !

We are sorry you had difficulty in locating a parking space when bringing your mother for her appointment and parking in a disabled bay has led to you receiving a ticket. We do have an appeals process which you may wish to follow up.

Car parking is an issue which is under constant review and we are always looking at how we can improve the availability of spaces for both patients and staff. However, we are constrained by our location and resources.

Plans are being developed to increase car parking on the site during the coming year and, whilst this does not address the immediate issues, we do hope that both patients and staff will benefit from the additional spaces that providing decked car parking will provide in future.
