My daughter had been poorly for a good few weeks, the day of the incident she had been spiking temperatures and shaking (my daughter has a history of non~febrile vacant/episodes).
We managed to get an appointment at IC24, to be told by the doctor that she had an infection and to take antibiotics, as we were leaving the hospital she started shaking again and her temperature soared so we went back to the office to ask if they could refer us to the paeds.
The receptionist refused to speak to the doctor and told us she was fine and to take her home as she said the doctor would've prescribed the right medicine and she would be fine. This is whilst my daughter is as red as a beet root, shaking and crying...the patients in the office waiting pointed me to a fan...I walked myself up to padua ward & was turned away. The Nurse practioner told me I couldn't just walk up as it doesn't work like and then walked off.
We went home, very concerned for our daughters health....I was really worried she had meningitis...when we got home she vomited & had a fit...The ambulance arrived and her temperature was really high, she was admitted to padua that night and on IVI antibiotics for 2 days.
Luckily my daughter was okay, but I'm worried for other people who aren't so lucky. A&E & ambulance staff were fantastic but I felt the staff at IC24 were unqualified to make that decision.
