After giving birth to my son in 2012, I never heard of Sure Start and didn’t know who they were or even what they did. I even went to a stay and play group and wasn’t sure who ran the group, I knew of the group due to a friend. In 2013 I was diagnosed with postnatal depression and due to an event that is when I was introduced to Sure Start properly, although I was very nervous at the time.
The Children’s Centre has helped me in every aspect, the family support worker Geraldine came to my house and gave me ideas how to make my relationship with my son even better, this helped my confidence. Through the Children’s Centre I have done a Maths course, I would not have known about courses if the Children’s Centre had not told me.
I am now a Volunteer at the Children’s Centre and volunteer while my son is at nursery. I get involved in the Children’s Centre by giving my ideas and opinions.
My involvement with the Children’s Centre and the support from the staff there has helped improve my parenting and family life. I am much more sociable now and because I am happier my son is happier too. I am now thinking about what I want to do in the future.
