"Awful"

About: Birmingham Dental Hospital

Had to take my 8 year old for 2 teeth out following a referral. Pre-op was fantastic but couldn't say the same for post - op. We were called through to recovery, where I was asked to pick my son up on the trolley, he was extremely distressed and in pain. Had to sit then with my son on my lap to wait for him to come round, only for him to be asked to stand and walk. Despite him still being wobbly was told okay for him to go, approximately 10 mins after coming out of theatre, yet all the leaflets say they can go home after an hour!! I felt really sorry for all the kids in the waiting room as this was directly opposite the recovery room and they had to listen to the other distressed kids.

I am sorry to read of your disappointment in the post-operative care of your child when you visited Birmingham Dental Hospital. Without more details it is difficult to understand and to offer an explanation for why you were told your child was ready to leave the hospital so soon after coming out of theatre. In order to investigate the matter, please call Helen Fisher, General Manager on 0121 466 5319 or email helen.fisher@bhamcommunity.nhs.uk. Helen will be able to liaise directly with the clinicians involved in your son's care and treatment to find out the details behind the decisions which were made and discuss these with you. Alternatively you are welcome to contact me, Alison Last, Associate Director of Patient Experience on 0121 466 7128 or email alison.last@bhamcommunity.nhs.uk if you prefer, and I will liaise on your behalf with the clinical team. Thank you for taking time to leave your feedback and I look forward to receiving your call to either Helen Fisher or myself in due course. Alison Last Associate Director of Patient Experience Birmingham Community Healthcare Trust
