" Unhappy with attitude at Liverpool Women's"

About: Liverpool Womens Hospital / Maternity care

(as a relative),

My daughter was in labour. We phoned Liverpool Women's Hospital as instructed, her labour advanced very quickly.

The midwife told my daughter "you're not ready". It was my daughters 1st baby, her pains were every 3 to 4 mins apart, we had a 30 min drive at least to get to hospital.

I insisted she rang back, between vomiting gaps, she was made to feel a pest and was told "if you come and your not dilated enough you will be sent back home".

I made her go anyway. When we arrived she started pushing before the midwife had chance to exam her. I had to find the midwife asking her to please hurry, as she seemed to take all the time in the world, making out we were a bunch of idiots.

The baby was face up and could not deliver, his heart beat dropped, suddenly there was 8 or more staff in the room, and the baby was born within 20 mins of arriving.

Luckily he was ok when he was brought round. It was only because of the good midwife he's alive. The hospital is only following new guidelines I assume, but don't allow emergencies.

I apologise for the delay in responding back to you but wanted to say I was concerned when I read your comments about your daughter's experience and I would still like to hear more details about it if you want to contact me via anne.bridson@lwh.nhs.uk
