"Fracture Clinic outpatients appointment Tuesday 17..."

About: Queen's Hospital (Romford)

My 88 year old mother had an appointment to see a doctor on Tuesday 17 February 2015 at 3.00pm. My mother was an Ambulance Patient and I also advised the nurse and other staff that I would be grateful if they would kindly organise for my mother to be seen as soon as possible as she is living with advanced dementia and was very distressed. She was also in intense pain. Unfortunately she had an over an hours delay. However, when eventually the doctor saw her, I have to say he was extremely sensitive, thoughtful and very caring. Even though he was running late, at no point did he rush my mother. The way this doctor dealt with my mother, was as if he was treating his own mother. Thank you once again to the doctor, and we look forward to seeing you again on 31 March 2015 when we have the next appointment with you. I would like to request the trust to put in place arrangements that ensure that older people and especially those with dementia have a distress free hospital experience.

Thank you for your comment on NHS Choices. I am sorry to hear that there was a delay for your mother’s appointment. I am keen to investigate this for you. Please contact me via our PALS team on 01708 435 454 or email PALS@bhrhospitals.nhs.uk and I will look into this for you. I am however really pleased that once you did see the doctor you found them to be caring and sensitive, this is excellent feedback and I am pleased that this aspect of your experience was a positive one. Yours sincerely, Nadeem Moghal Medical Director
