My wife went in a 7am today for a routine but large op, and got admitted and saw the consultant and anaesthetist, but then was told by the bed manager they were cancelling it can you go home. In one breath he said you should have been told yesterday in the next it was because A&E were busy last night. Very little compassion shown and my wife was an emotional wreck after waiting months of anguish to have this op. Also she now knows it is a bigger op then we first thought (as the consultant told her)so on top of all this she has now got to wait for another day and worry even more about the op. She had to book 6 weeks off work which they have now covered the list goes on but the worst thing is my wife emotional state right now. I love the NHS and the staff we met today were great but the last contact he did not do it right and just left the room with my wife's head full of questions she could ask no one. I phoned the ward sister when I got home and she was unaware so did this bed manager not consult first with her. I will not be leaving this as just feedback i will get to the bottom of this so i suggest someone contacts me soon I am angry my wife is upset and i have tried hard not to be rude in this feedback but i am going to find out why a bed manager can overrule a consultant as the consultant said we see you upstairs. It appears that the consultant, ward sister, and bed manger do not speak to each other, NHS can only get better if it has the constructive feedback in which to build upon and improve upon.
"Cancelled op at the last minute unacceptable..."
